I'm a fan (and you should be too) because... The first time I heard him play I was sent back to my youth in a time machine. I heard Dwayne Allman back in Bernette Park in Jacksonville Florida where I grew up. The Allman Joys with Dwayne Allman was smoking the slide guitar back then. Now it's Derek Trucks Smoking Slide Guitar. Derek has taken the slide guitar to a whole new level. He makes it look so easy. HA! I have bin playing for 41 years and can't come close to what Derek does. From sweet & soft to smoking hot runs, Derek does it all.
I was just getting over cancer four years ago and was on this sight and seen Derek Trucks Band going to play on the Jam Cruise 5. So I asked my wife if she wanted to go. She said sure. It was the best time of my life. Being disabled it's not easy for me to go to a festival any more but the Jam Cruise so great for me I don't have to walk a half mile to get to the next stage. The band played two sets that blue me away. I wish Derek & Susan would have stayed for the full cruise but the band stayed and did some awesome sets with everyone.
The day of autograph signing I told my wife to meet me there and the time came she was no where to be found. Well She was talking to Derek and Susan with a bass in her hands getting it singed. There was four guitar signed by all artist on the cruise to be auctioned off for greening. Well Guess who has one? Yep ME
I Love the Blues and Derek Trucks playing the Blues inspires me to play slide.
