This week on MLB.com, sportswriter and Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee Peter Gammons penned a great article about Virgil Trucks, the legendary Detroit Tigers pitcher from the 1950s, and his great-nephew Derek. It's a must-read for any baseball fan and any Derek fan, as Gammons is truly one of the best writers - sports or otherwise - in the business today.

In 2010, fans of Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi have many reasons to be excited. After sharing the stage countless times, and performing on each other's respective GRAMMY-nominated albums in 2009, the formidable husband-and-wife duo are joining forces for a handful of special dates. Both Derek & Susan are taking some time off this year for much needed family time, but as life-long performers they won't be able to resist hitting the road and taking the stage to play music with friends. The Trucks/Tedeschi family plans to use 2010 as an opportunity to try out new ideas and songs so stay tuned for some surprises.

The first concert for the new band will be a headlining appearance at the Savannah Music Festival on April 1. From there, the group will play at Wanee Music Festival on April 17 before heading to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival for a performance on April 30. After that, they will play at Mountain Jam on June 5. Additional dates will be announced shortly.

Congratulations to The Derek Trucks Band, who just moments ago were awarded their first GRAMMY! Already Free took home the GRAMMY for Best Contemporary Blues Album against some special competition, including Susan Tedeschi, whose wonderful album Back To The River was also nominated in the same category.

Yonrico Scott accepted the award on behalf of the band. We'll have more GRAMMY coverage for you, including Yonrico's journal of his time in LA, coming soon, but until then, congrats and thank you to you all for supporting dTb!

A few weeks ago, we launched the dTb Historical Photo Project, and asked fans to submit their best pictures of The Derek Trucks Band from over the years. We've seen 400 great submissions, but we still want to see more! That's why we're extending the deadline for submissions until February 19, 2010.

So far, we've seen some real standout photos from the 2009 Tour, but we're hoping to see more photos from the band's early years in these next few weeks. If you or your friends saw dTb in the 1990's or early-2000's, and have photos, please add them to the dTb HIstorical Photo Gallery, and dTb might end up using your photo in the packaging of their new live album! Good luck!

As The Derek Trucks Band puts the finishing touches on the upcoming live album, we are once again asking the community of fans and friends to be a part of the process. First, we asked you to send your best photos of the band for use in the album packaging, and even after 300 photos, great ones are still being added every day.

There’s a new Message Board where anybody can submit their favorite potential album titles. Post your own ideas check out and discuss other fans’ submissions, and there’s a chance that The Derek Trucks Band will use your album title for their new live album! No guarantees, but we know that you have some great ideas… So let’s hear ‘em!

With an amazing year of touring behind them, The Derek Trucks Band is hard at work putting together a new live album to be released in Spring of 2010! As the band pours over tapes and tracks, they’re asking fans to join the effort and be a part of this special album.

For the last 16 years of touring, Derek and the band have played everywhere from backwater juke-joints to massive summer festivals, and at each stop dTb fans were there (often with camera in hand) to show their support. Now, we’re asking fans to dig through your archives for your best pictures of The Derek Trucks Band over the years. Whether on-stage, off-stage, or backstage, we want to see it. Also, feel free to post shots of any/all band members in group or solo shots. The best photo or photos will have a chance to be included within the album packaging for the new dTb live album!

Here's how to participate: we created a new fan photo gallery on DerekTrucks.com, called “dTb Historical Photo Project” – upload your photos there and the band will review them. If your photo is selected, we’ll be contacting you, so make sure your email address is up-to-date in your DerekTrucks.com profile. Start digging through those old photos now – we can’t wait to see what you come up with!

On Sunday night at The Egg in Albany, NY, The Derek Trucks Band performed their final show of 2009, and their last show before the scheduled hiatus in 2010. The concert featured two sets and three hours of classic & rarely-performed dTb tunes ("Young Funk," "Home In Your Heart." "Yield Not To Temptation," "555 Lake"), eclectic cover staples ("Anyday," "Leavin' Trunk," "Volunteered Slavery," "My Favorite Things") and gems from all throughout their 16-year run ("Joyful Noise," "Soul Serenade," "Already Free").
