Khunter and ChipsSis--although a bit late on this thread my emotions overwhelm me while reading your stories. Derek's kindness holds no surprise for me. He has a demeanor about him that extrudes kindness, humbleness, and a warm heart. Part of my emotion is that I too spent quite a bit of time up in Jacksonville, as my sister was experiencing end stage liver disease and near death more than once. While she was intubated and in a non-responsive coma, I played music, including the dtb, to her from my laptop. When the folks up there at Mayo brought her back to us, she smiled at me and repeated all of the tunes that I had played; you just never know do you?

Although in really bad shape she was determined to fight for a new life. A large part of that fighting spirit was because of all of the wonderful music she wanted to continue to hear and see. We were at Wanee last year (pre-transplant) and will be there together again this year. She stated matter-of-factually that she would be boogieing on down at Wanee and Jazz Fest this year (she has been doing the NOLA Jazz Fest for well over 25 years.)

Fortunately, the incredible folks up there at Mayo Jacksonville, saved her life and gave her a new lease in the form of a new liver. We were well tuned in to the continuance of life as the transplant team at Mayo refers to it in that one ended so another could live on. Our hearts and prayers went out to the grieving family, as we too knew of the sadness that comes with the loss of a loved one, especially one that happens unexpected and suddenly. We knew all to well also the experience of sitting with a loved one while they prepare for a new journey in the afterlife. We also gave thanks for the altruistic gift from the organ donor and his/her grieving family.

Just prior to going in for surgery the surgeon came into the room and explained how everything would be going down. I told him I only had one question and asked "what music will you be playing in the OR?" His answer was James Taylor while doing the transplant, Sweet Baby James just prior to closing, and Bob Marley during closing." My sister laughed and said that she had just spent time on stage with JT at Jazz Fest '09. I knew then that everything was going to be alright. We then turned the surgeon on to the dtb and hopefully he'll be playing some of that as his god given hands and mind do their magic in the OR--all the while grooving to fine music.

You just never know how you may be touched, but music has always been a large part of our life (fans, not musicians). I know that it is not only a great healer, but also a medium that touches us deeply in our soul and one that provides us with a reason to keep on Truck'n. When we hit the ruts and potholes in the road of life music softens the blows and eases the pain. I am deeply touched by your stories.

Reading your stories gave me another glimpse into just what incredible folks Derek and Susan are. I am so looking forward to seeing the new Band in Live Oak, and then in New Orleans, with my sister and wife. We'll also see them up in Boston and then in Bridgeview at Crossroads 2010 (although at this time just the ABB is confirmed; I am keeping my fingers crossed for DTASTB to be announced there). And yes, I don't know who mentioned it above, but a DVD would be great stitched together with Roadsongs. Thanks dtb, and now thanks to The Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi Band for giving us a time out in this most complicated world we live in today.

The past belongs to the future...but only the present can preserve it.

I'll see the album, if the song was interesting and cool for the listen, I'll buy the album. thanks for sharing information.

Very good site thank you Creating History Together With ArenaBetting Piala Eropa 2012 so much for your time in publishing the posts for all of us to learn about. I care for similarly info Promo Member Alfamart Minimarket Lokal Terbaik Indonesia great deal. I became seeking this kind of information for a long period.

Thanks for playing some of the most original, soulful and enjoying music out there today. With so much CRAP being thrown out there in the "music" business today, it is very refreshing to hear true musicians who really care about what they play and how they play it. Thanks for a great show last night at the Egg. That was my 4th DTB show in a row there and it just gets better every year. Enjoy the time off with your loved ones and we'll be anxiously awaiting the bands return in whatever form. Thanks again--Upstategitpicker

I understand. You need some time with the fam, touring is hard - I know. I'll forgive you for not hitting Rochester or Buffalo this season, but when you come back, you need to hit us up with at least....3 shows. We love you here. Play at UB and Waterstreet, those are the best spots for DTB. The music is the most moving thing that's happened in years, and you've inspired a new generation of rock and blues guitarists to search out new music that they wouldn't naturally listen to. You set a great example, so don't stop, and we'll see you out in a years time.

It saddens me, but I'll get over it. Make sure the live CD has a version of These Days and I Wish I Knew.

Cheers,

SW

Thank you to 'khunter' for the beautiful post above about the young man with Stage 4 cancer. On this Thanksgiving morning I am sitting here with tears of joy and gratitude pouring non-stop for so many things in my life, and really missing my Dad and my brother. I just shared your story with my 86 yr old Mom, Kathryn Miller. My brother, Chip and I grew up in Jax. Chip was a Southern Rock drummer, extraordinaire! He passed in 2005 from liver cancer. My father was very active with both Jax Sheriff's Dept and Florida Highway Patrol. One day, back in or around 1986, I think, my parents went to a Police Auction. They bought a beautiful red guitar, for $30. Even though my brother was a drummer they knew Chip would know someone to give it to and felt it was worth the money! In those days, $30 was a lot! That guitar was recently, along with many others, in The Folio newspaper in Jax, which featured Derek on the cover, with an awesome story about who he is and his music. I loved the article and seeing that red guitar among his treasures and so did Mom.
Four days after Chip passed Derek was in our home, with his children and his father. Mom shared the Police Auction story with Derek-which he said didn't remember hearing how Chip had gotten the guitar originally. Chip's memorial was scheduled for the next day and Derek was to leave for Nashville to do some recording. He turned to his Dad, and gently said, 'we need to change my flight' and then looked back at me and said, "I'll be there", and he was.
I cherish the memories of the days when my own son, Brian, now a touring Systems Engineer with Clair Brothers, and Derek were running around Ward's Landing, Jax Beach, and Sloppy Joe's when Chip's bands were playing..... just being kids.
Today, mother and I are grateful to know that those 'kids' have turned into loving, caring human beings who do more than make great music. They make a difference in the world through the light in their hearts! Happy Thanksgiving Derek, Susan and the entire Trucks clan. This was an amazing way to start my Thanksgiving morning.
When I read this post to Mom I could barely get through it. She softly said how wonderful it was Derek and that young man's nurse were able to do that for that for him. Then in a voice that was barely audible she said, 'I guess in some way, your brother had a part in that too I suppose since he gave Derek one of his first guitars'. I gently reminded her...."Mom, so did you". After a moment of silence she said, 'yes, I guess I did'. Touching lives, changing the world, making a difference one human being at a time. We are all connected, heart to heart.....with much love, and Happy Thanksgiving to you all! Treasure the moments that truly matter. I am always..........

Chip's sis!

You asked for an 'old' picture...this one is pretty old! Around 1988 Hospice Benefit, Derek w/ my brother, Chip Miller. Photo taken by Ace I am pretty certain, the in-famous red guitar that my parents, Kathryn & Harold Miller, bought @ Jax Police Auctio

I will miss my New Years Eve ritual at the Fox, but am looking forward to the Variety Playhouse shows!

We'll miss you out here in Northern California. We'll look forward to hearing and seeing you again in 2011. And I agree, a DVD would be fantastic. Thanks for all the wonderful music!

Best wishes during the greatly deserved hiatus! I would like to recommend putting out a DVD of your performances! We love to watch the video of Clapton's Blues Festival in Chicago. A whole DVD of DTB and Susan would be so cool!!!
I would also like to share a story about this awesome band. I'm an oncology nurse who works with patients who have Grade 4 brain tumors (the worst prognosis). One patient was a young man of 20 who had had several treatments and the tumor continued to grow. We always shared our love of music - he was a great guitar player himself, loving blues the most. He told me that DTB was coming to town and we should check them out. I knew who they were, but had not seen them live. We got tickets with some friends and over the next couple of months, his condition started deteriorating. I contacted the venue and the band hoping for maybe a T-shirt. I was told that we could come for the sound check before the concert and meet the band (band suggested this knowing how hard it would be for the young man in a wheelchair to sit through the concert!). The venue also pulled out the stops. When we got there, we listened to the sound check (so amazing!) and then the band came and spent quite a bit of time with the patient, his dad and sister, his friends and their families, his oncologist (65 yrs old!) and other nurses/friends/familes. They took pictures of him holding Derek's guitar and Derek gave him the slide he was using. Albums/CD's/Shirts were signed by all band members. Derek kneeled by his wheelchair and talked to him for a while, too... Not a dry eye among us... The patient was not able to stay for the concert, but Derek told him he was going to get the Allmans to sign a guitar and have it sent to him. He received it less than a week later.... and passed away about 2 weeks after the concert., a few days before his 21st birthday. At the service, the guitar was displayed up front.... Thank you all again and again...

Wish all of you from dTb a joyful rest at 2010 with your family`s
and would like to thank you at this place
for the wonderful time you have given us
during the already free tour!
It was an unforgetable time and musicaly
the deepest impression and most emotional
experience in my life...and I`m shure...
...I`m not the only one!!
The upcoming live-release will be a
great memory of a period,
which is like a stamp in the hearts
of a lot of people who really loves
this wonderful music!
Be shure...we`re holding the candle..
..if you come back on stage!!

I'm glad I read this before tonight's show in Montreal ..
It's going to be extra special .. anything they play will be music to my ears .. although I'm really hoping for This Sky.
I'll miss you DTB.

Not going to be able to withstand the withdrawal from the DTB concerts we attend -- about 2 or 3 per month! Looking forward to New material...God Speed to the bad and YES they Deserve a rest!

...they could take two years off and surpass what most bands do in that time.

This means the next effort will be that much better as well!

A haitus is sad news for me, DTB has been a huge part of my life for a 10 years now..... Hopefully everyone will come back even stronger when the hiatus is over and I am anxious to see what projects (if any) everyone does during the break.
