The Derek Trucks Band Release 'Already Free'
Today, January 13, marks the release of Already Free, the new album from The Derek Trucks Band.
Recorded in the newly-built studio in the backyard of Derek’s Florida home, Already Free captures a band reveling in the comfort and intimacy of its surroundings. Whether due to the setting, the help of family members (both nuclear and honorary) like Susan Tedeschi, Doyle Bramhall II (Eric Clapton) and Oteil Burbridge (The Allman Brothers Band), or perhaps just that otherworldly musical connection between the six men of The Derek Trucks Band, Already Free is a clear and powerful document of a band in its creative prime.
As Derek puts it, “this definitely feels different than any record we’ve ever done,” a sentiment brought into focus from the very first ominous bars of the Bob Dylan gem “Down In The Flood,” a rendition that sounds both entirely unlike the original, and entirely unlike anything dTb has recorded before. “I think the music feels more realized, and I believe this will be on the list of two or three of the great records we ever do as a band.”
Now, whether you’ve been counting the days until your pre-ordered copy arrives, or if you’re just learning of the band and the music now, we are proud to announce that Already Free is now available everywhere.
Purchase your copy from The Derek Trucks Band Official store today.
For a little extra music, and a few extra bucks in your wallet, head to your local Best Buy to purchase Already Free with three exclusive bonus tracks – “Ballad of the Chicken Robber,” “Swamp Raga,” and “Long Time Man” – each recorded in the Already Free sessions and never released to those of us on this side of Derek’s home studio walls. For a limited time, Best Buy is also offering a $9.99 sale on Already Free.
If you purchase Already Free from iTunes, you will receive one bonus track, “Goin’ Home,” that you can only hear if you pick up your copy of Already Free from iTunes.

Derek, record a song with Johnny Winter
Derek,
I don't know if you will ever see this message but I thought I'd try anyway.
I was watching the Crossroads DVD again and it seems to me that you really enjoyed playing with Johnny... he still plays and tours very actively and I was thinking how nice it would be to have you guys make some recordings, as you did with Doyle.
Johnny is like an older version of you in some ways (way older) and I have been watching him for years. It would be nice I think
Frank
Queen of Spades... Crossroads 2007... Wow
The new CD
I didn't think it was possible that I would like a CD more than Songlines, but I was so wrong. The CD has not stopped playing in my car since I got it.
Every song a work of art. The production is spectacular. Each instrument clear and meaningful. Each voice heard and felt. Wow, Derek, you did a
fantastic job. Loking forward to seeing you in NJ and in Boston. Also, in March with the Brothers. Can't wait.
Love ya, Kate
Love ya,
Kate
G;day! you're welcome to tour Australia any time soon :-)
I'm looking forward to receiving my order - I bought 2 .. one for a friend here in Australia.
It would be so great if DTB toured here
BASEMENT SMOKE
Great Music!!!!
THANKS
DEREK, THANKS FOR ANOTHER TERRIFIC ALBUM AND STATEMENT ABOUT PEACE, HOPE AND LOVE. KEEP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND I CAN'T WAIT TO CATCH YOU AND THE BAND WHEN YOU COME TO BOSTON.
with grace and gratitude
thank you, dTb and family, for the new music...the new words.
this album stirs me deeply. it is timely, pertinent and profound.
if my 'copy' were vinyl and not mp3(though i am feeling
the need for hard copy) i believe the groove through
Back Where I Started would be worn to the other side.
looking forward to a live show in a few weeks.
.....
Best album yet.
I'm just waiting for derek and the band to swing around boston so i can see them for the sixth time.
Awesome!
I pre-ordered my copy from newbury comics that included a signed booklet. Actually got it a day before it came out. Pretty much haven't stopped listening to it since. I love every song, and damn Derek did a really good job producing everything sounds incredible with headphones on. I'm really loving Our Love that Doyle sings.... no one can play with as much soul as Derek I think he really shines on that song especially..... Can't wait until March when they'll be in San Francisco.
Huh?
Lookin forward to hearin the record, Flood rocked on Conan... But, well... Is it true that in order to get ALL the "bonus tracks" (Are they part of the record or not??) I have to buy it TWICE?? Somebody please explain why I'm wrong about that. (Damn evil marketing schemes...)
Down right the best he has made to date
Down Don't Bother Me has the more soul in one second than most records these days have in their entirety
Derek Trucks shows in this album that technique and speed don't make a great player; soul does
Holy Cow!
Great job guys!! Just got back from school and found this sitting on the counter. Great!!
Already Free
Just got my copy of the album this morning. I must say, I'm very satisfied with the music on here. DTB definitely didn't disappoint.
No Album Art or Info
Just got the cd and was going to give it a listen on my computer and then rip it for my iPod. No album art or any information, including track names, came up in iTunes, Zune or Windows Media player. Any help out there?
Create your own
You can manually type in the name of the songs for albums and scan your cover to put in the album art. It's probably too new to be in the CDDB.
Shouldn't Have to Manually Input Data for New Release
Well, the information should be on the CD. Otherwise how does the head unit in my car know what disc and track it's playing to display on the screen? I just tried and the info is there and displays on the head unit for Songlines but not for Already Free. And I have scanned some cover art for older CDs that aren't on iTunes Store which is where iTunes gets the artwork. But shouldn't have to for a new release.
@olguy
!
This is GRAND. On first listen some of my favorites are Get What You Deserve, Down Don't Bother Me and I Know.
