Got my music unpacked! Last night was listening to ABB Fillmore Concerts. Tonight listeninfg to DTB 3/30/00 and now watching: David Nelson & Friends 9/1/07 on dvd, last time they played on the east coast.
All packed and ready to leave for Chicago. Listening and watching "Isn't it a Pity" on the Crossroads 2007 DVD. Got it all cranked up and all cranked myself. The visuals and playing of Derek on this DVD are simply just wonderful. I suppose 40 years or so ago we would have said that it was "far out." Still is...

Listening to THE Mood Cultivation Project CD: In This Space and Time, song: Springbird(on the fly). As I pack all my cds to move I see several older dTb shows that haven't been but need play: 10/23/99(with herring and krasno if I remember right), 3/30/00 carrboro nc, and an audience of the 12/22/99 christmas jam gig.
The Mood Cultivation song Sounds very Allmanish. Think some folks here might dig it. They opened/supported (on the side stage) for ABB in Raleigh in 2005.
Leon Helm, Lucinda Williams, Jack White, Mofro, North Mississippi Allstars, Muddy Waters, Deer Tick, moe., Drive-By Truckers, Ryan Bingham, James Mcmurtry, Waylon, Willie, Pinetop Perkins & Willie ''Big Eyes'' Smith, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, ARU, Buck Owens, Steve Earle and this week my rental car has ''SAT'' radio so I am listening to a little bit of everything.

Glad to be of service! I'm ready for him to put out another.
The first two albums by The Meters (it cracks me up to hear my son go "Ahhhhhh yah!" right as Cissy Strut is starting), some '93 ARU I downloaded the other day (those guys are amazing), the Freewheelin Bob Dylan and The Times They Are A-Changing have been in the mix alot these days.
Buddy and Judy Miller, (listen to "Written In Chalk") Steve Earle, Emmylou, Levon (see what you started Nathan!!), Gillian Welch...gone roots crazy AGAIN (kinda my home along with the blues) and, by the way...PETE ANDERSON ROCKS!! Peace BB

I think the problem regarding stone is that she became too successful too early. She's never had a chance to find her own voice and so what she is left with is mimicing her influences.

Had a good listening day today. Day started with Rush-snakes and arrows. Motörhead-motorizor and finished off with the relaxing grateful dead-American beauty
You may not need to replace your Tuner/Amp in order to upgrade to Blu-Ray. I have my Blu-Ray player connected directly to my TV via HDMI and connect the optical out from the Blu-Ray to my Cambridge Audio Receiver. That way i have Jeff Beck in DTS-HD through my surround system when i've my amp on, and can still use the TV sound when the amp is off (which is essential late at night when the Wife's gone to bed)
I'm glad your mate will get to see DT and Jeff Beck on the same night. Especially if DT and Jeff get to play together! two of my favourite Guitar Players.
I didn't really mind Joss Stone's vocals on Ronnie Scotts and i really like Imogen Heap. Also, Joss Stone does sing well on 'THere is no other me' from the new Album. It's just that i feel her vocal style is kind of 'Put on' and doesn't really seem from the heart. Or maybe i'm just not getting her feel! And, i'm being a tad more picky here in saying that i didn't like the Clapton walk on but i'm just not a big fan of modern day Clapton. Give me Cream any day!!
Yeah, the ash cloud is causing Havoc at times here. I've plenty of mates supposed to head on Holidays but they have missed out. Going away myself in a couple of weeks to Portugal so hopefully i'll get the flight there. I don't care if the cloud comes back when i'm in Portugal as i don't care if i get home
Haven't broke down and bought a Blu-Ray yet although my Tuner/Amp seems to be acting up. That will give me an excuse to upgrade again. Streaming Blu-Ray etc. requires requires HDMI inputs and outputs which my "old" Yahmaha doesn't have. Look's like a trip to Best Buy is in order.
Yes, the Live at Ronnie Scott's is an incredibly well done DVD and showcases the whole band really well; I never tire of it.
Just to make you a bit jealous I've got two 2nd row center seats up at the BOA Pavilion in Boston for June 3rd. I'm meeting a friend of mine who wanted to come down to NOLA Jazz Fest to see him. I suggested that we do Boston instead, as he has never seen or heard Derek Trucks. My friend just completed a year of chemo and radiation so this particular evening will be especially special for both of us. Too many of my generation are passing on so I'm trying to see them all and enjoy our time together as much as possible. Music is such an integral part of our growing up and it, other than family, is one of the constants in our lives.
Although you didn't particularly like Joss Stone I found her rendition great. Also, Imogen Heap singing "Blanket" and "Roll'n & Tumbling" was also incredible on the DVD. I was so much looking forward to Tal being there but Jeff states that she has other obligations. The walk-on with Clapton was great also.
Fortunately, my wife and I will see Jeff at Crossroads Guitar Festival again this year. We managed to snag the same seats as we had in 2007 (although at a hefty price as I missed to pre-sale and general public sale. Don't know how I did that but it is what it is. I couldn't have picked better seats had I arrived a day earlier and went out to Toyota park and had my pick. Pure dumb luck! Speaking of the 2007 Crossroads--I did purchase one of the limited edition posters of that event and so far have managed to get Jeff Beck, Jimmy Vaughn, Hubert Sumlin, Sonny Landreth, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Mike Mattison, and Kofi Burbridge to sign it for me. I feel like an old groupie doing this stuff and actually feel a bit uncomfortable asking for autographs. Everyone who has signed so far were extremely gracious about doing so. I suspect that Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood would be the most difficult to reach, but you never know...
Hope things are going well over there in Ireland. I heard the ash has closed the airports there.
Take care and keep on truck'n

41Turck - The new album is starting to grow on me (still don't like Joss Stones vocals though). I'm happy you got to see him live this year. I missed a chance to see him in Dublin as i was out of the country at the time and not sure when he's going to play Ireland again. Until then, i have Live at Ronnie scotts on my CD player, and on my Blu-Ray player to keep me happy
Richie--haven't listened to Jeff's new album yet but his performance on the Gentilly Stage today (actually yesterday) was awesome. He had me in tears as he played "People Get Ready" (no vocals) as it seemed to be a dire warning as the oil washes ashore on the Gulf coast today. The sky was overcast with big dark clumps of clouds being whisked overhead at about Beaufort scale 6 gusting into 7's at times. The wind was whipping up dust devils on the one mile dirt track and on the 7 furlong turf oval that had been ground to dust by hundreds of thousands of feet over the last week. Beck's rendition of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" was also especially poignant considering the venue and what is lurking offshore. Check out Doug MacCash, The Times-Picayune, at Jeff Beck Soars at New Orleans Jazz Fest and Jeff Beck News and Reviews

Just got Jeff Beck's new Album. Not sure what to make of this yet!? A few more listens will give me a better idea..
Hammerhead is a great rocking Tune but don't like Joss Stone's contrived vocals on 'Spell on you'. I do really like the 2 recordings with Olivia Safe though!
Anyone else got any opinions on this album?
P.S. Was really upset that Beck didn't let loose with his Guitar at the end of "There is no other me". The song just cut off when he was getting started! Ridiculous!!
Is this Album Jeff Beck's attempt at breaking the very commercial music scene??
well I started listening to Levon (live from Merlefest, DF, ED), revisited The Band, veered off to early Gram Parsons, Emmylou, Pure Prairie League, Poco, Flying Burrito Brothers.....MAN...there is so music out there

Lots! These just in the last week and are only the ones I remember off the top of me head mates:
Phish's: Joy, John Cowan Band: 8,745 ft. Recorded live @ Telluride, Ryan Adams heartbreaker, Frank Zappa Hot Rats, Woodstock 1969 soundtrack, David Nelson Band Keeper of The Key(live), Jefferson Airplane: Volunteers, The Gregg Allman Tour '74, ABB Shades of Two Worlds, & BWIAB, Black Sabbath: Paranoid, Black Sabbath S/T.
Right now, watching Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble Live at Montreux 1985. Been hitting a lot of dtb, Suzanne T livefromaustintx, Jeff Beck(both watching and listening to the incredible DVD Live at Ronnie Scott's) and spinning Truth. Really enjoy some lesser known names like Albert Castiglia - These are the days for example. This bluesman was born in the summer of '69 and now has that little sidestep SRV had; Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers. Willie Nelson (DVD and CDs.) Can't get enough Crossroads 2007, I mentioned "Father's & Sons" on another thread and pulled out the vinyl (I see it has been remastered to CD) and got a Long Distance Call and My Mojo Working. Of course one thing leads to another and I went back and pulled out the Velvet Underground, some Mayhall, Canned Heat, Janis Joplin & BB&THC, a bit 'o cream, Music from Big Pink, and then some Super Session since Stills will be at Wanee. Neil Young, Paul Butterfield and the Bluesbreakers... it just never stops. Saw an incredible performance by Robert Cray and band, in a small venue last month. Eagles out of Edan, and then some Hendrix. Just jumping back to my roots, I guess.
Going way back I'll crank up Percy Sledge and Richy Valens on the 1947 Wurlitzer 1015 spinning at 78 rpm just to keep me honest and to take me back. This most popular juke box ever made holds a whopping 24 single sided 78 records. Just the bubbler light show adds ambiance when guests are over at night. Although the one depicted in the YouTube video is not mine, that's what I have and you'll get the concept. Interesting blend of machinery--slug ejector, and vacuum tubes.
There just aren't enough hours in the day...and I feel like I'm falling behind. Always chores to do and something else coming up like Jimmy Vaughn, in a very small venue, Thursday night, Wanee and then Jazz Fest and then...

Phil lesh and friends live at the warfield 2006. Last days of the fillmore(west), which btw has a nice version of "I wish I knew" with a female vocalist in it.

New riders of the purple sage latest disc: where I come from (nrps is currently recording a follow up to it). Eddie vedders soundtrack to the into wild movie. Some Pink Floyd, AC/DC, never before released CD from the last box set,,,it is really really good! also Them Crooked Vultures, some David Bowie (ziggy stardust) and ABB
...including Layla and others, Gov't Mule, Bramhall or Arc Angels, Cry of Love, Jonny Lang
Listen to a variety on radio, enough to be different, but never outside the pull of a blues orbit when I go back to my favorites.
Grindcore stuff playing right now, stuff friends made at the old Stax studios when their band was together.

Keep on Truckin'
at the variety of music that is in the lives of the members here....for me that's the same reason I love the DTB!! Keep them coming as I am always looking for stuff that I haven't yet heard...or reminded of music that I haven't listened to in a long time. Thanks! Peace, BB

Black Crowes!

Keep on Truckin'
Lately I've been listing to the two new Levon Helm albums and a bunch of Jackie Greene.
And of course, Prof. Longhair. Tis the season down here!
at the variety of music that is in the lives of the members here....for me that's the same reason I love the DTB!! Keep them coming as I am always looking for stuff that I haven't yet heard...or reminded of music that I haven't listened to in a long time. Thanks! Peace, BB
