Teacher or Students View on Lessons

Teacher or Students View on Lessons

Hi Folks, just looking for feedback from either 'Guitar teachers' or 'Guitar Students'. I'm currently teaching Guitar part-time and am considering going full time in the future, so i'm just looking for hints, tips, opinions etc...

Basically, looking for teachers opinions, and what works best. And also students opinions on what they enjoyed most from lessons.... you may have gotten lessons a long time ago but you're opinion is still valid Smiling

Thanks

have neglected the songs part of the lesson a bit lately as i've students preparing for 'London College of Music' Guitar exams but i think i'll have to seperate lessons up into songs and exam stuff.

You're right BB...Everyone asks "Can you play me something" Smiling

besides being fun...give a student a sense of accomplishment...cause everyone is gonna be asking..."can you play me something?" Peace, BB

regarding the scales, as soon as i demonstrate a scale, and the student can play it, i will show them how to implement it in a song they know. Nobody likes playing scales for the sake of playing them Smiling

I usually show a few songs first and then approach the scale as part of the solo or riff.

well it depends on the level that the teachers teach and the level at which the students want to learn. Also, as you know music is sequential and mathematical, and there are more combinations on the guitars fret board than on most instruments. Many students are NOT mathematical, so this can potentially be overwhelming. So, what has worked for me as a student over the last zillion years is a combo of technical (scales and theory), BUT I have had to learn them by playing songs , which is fun. If you learn enough songs, the dots will eventually connect. I reckon small bites and baby steps.. That's all I know...Peace, BB
