Derek's Marshall Head

Derek's Marshall Head

Anyone know what Model of Marshall Head Derek is referring to in the Gibson.com interview?

"I used a lot. I have a bunch of old Gibson and Epiphone amps, and my Super Reverbs. I have an old Airline guitar with the amp built in its case. For every tune I imagined the guitar sound I wanted to hear and then dug up some funny old guitar and amp combination to get it. I used a vintage Marshall head and a Paul Reed Smith amp on some tracks..."

well it could have been a vintage JMP 50 Marshall Bass head like Duane used to play through, he owns a '61 LP/SG like Duane used for slide...I don't think that being in the studio has ever limited him from "gagging" his Supers or the 40-50 watt PRS/Sewell's that he has also referred to using on the new album...I also know that he used a Marshall head with the ABB for a while trying to find the right tone to fit into the mix before he settled on the PRS/Sewells...could be that Marshall that he was referring to.. maybe Bobby T will chime in and help us out? I just noticed that Derek said amp head so it may be one of the older 20 watt (2061x) amp heads!?

I assume he would use load watt valve amps for recording in order to push the output valves

I built my own 18watt combo with original specs other than the cosmetics (tolex, piping, grill, etc.). Whithout a poto, who knows but that is my best guess.

But, there's no pic of the amp. I have a Marshall 1974x 18 watt Handwired amp myself so i was just wondering if Derek used something similar.

Do you have a link so we can see which one? My guess is that it is most likely an old 18 Watt. Those things are magical and really dial in the Duane/Derek sound well. Especially since you can push them and really break up the speaker eaily.
