Hello All, i'm writing on behalf of the band.

Thanks for sharing the review and the photos.
I only made it to 1 2009 DTB show at the Cape Cod Melody tent on 8/7. I answered a Craig’s list post for a ticket the day of the show, made the phone call and ended up in the front row for less than face value. I’ve seen Derek play in Vermont, Boston, Mohegan Sun, among others and every show has been great musically with each show seemingly better than the last. The crowds have always been great whether sitting down during the show at the Somerville Theater or standing in the Avalon. That said; I’ve never heard a crowd as engaged at the Cape crowd that night. It seemed the crowd was hanging on every note, cheering every solo (not just Derek’s), clapping along and going crazy at the end of every song and for good reason too! What a great performance by every member of the band. At one point, after Gonna Move I think, the crowd roared its approval and Mike turned back to say something to Derek. I couldn’t hear him over the din of the audience, but it was easy to understand what he said: “WOW! This is awesome!” I couldn’t have said it any better. I think the highlight of the night for me was "Sweet Inspiration". That night will be a lasting memory for me.

Here is part of my review from: http://www.moemoephoto.com/?p=561
"The dark outdoor setting with a glow from the stage and a set of music which seemed extra bluesy and soulful made this a great night. I think the band really played off the laid back atmosphere of the festival which got them in the groove early on and the audience carried them on the rest of the set. Another special reason that the spirits were high with the band is that it took place on Todd Smallie’s birthday. All these things put together made this an extraordinary set of music that I will remember forever."
For me, it was the best show of about a dozen DTB shows that I saw this year!

I was there for the Sat show in Charlotte, 2008, and I KNOW they were ON that night AND they played many songs from Already Free. That show and the Durham 2009 show are my faves of all time...I would hate to have to choose between either...so I will suggest them both!

Haven't had internet at home(only internet on phone) since july and my work pc lab does not have speakers and no cd player in the car only seeing the band once this tour(and it being a *GOOD* but NOT a *great* show) and just not having time in general to collect any audiences through the mail or even listen to anything recent I can't offer much.
I will say that if the band would include/consider something outside of the limited, "Already Free World Tour 2009" then I would suggest several songs from the 2 night Thanksging weekend 2008 run in Charlotte, NC where they performed much material from Already Free.
This has to be the home base. When Derek and Susan are playing Kingston Mines alternate stages in in 2051, there will still be derektrucks.com.

nice enough folks at the ABB site - and no doubt some hard-core fans ---- but, you will also find there plenty of people with strong opinions ...... and they've seen dTb *a few times* over the years .............. so ......... keep that in mind.
i'm not saying their opinions don't matter - just that the people that POST the most about them are not necessarily IN TUNE with the dTb.
so yeah, it's hard-core either way -----but the REAL dTb NutJobs ought to be HERE!
After all, what do we talk about here? the MUSIC!
Oh! absnj - (having ranted that) I *did* post it over there!
.... somewhere.
........
I have no more show-input I don't think ----- both Charlottes and of course DURHAM was very, very special -- like I said, in many years of shows, I think I had *the best time* !! It was just beautiful, *every*thing went right, and the band was this AMazing Entity right before my eyes and ears ---- studied it hard, that night and subsequently ............ just LOVE it!!!
(in fact, I have a tape of it over on Archive.org - my first tape!)
Peace.
I saw the band on the 3rd of April in Burlington, and while that was a smoking show on all accounts (it has yet to surface though, and I know there is a recording), the Albany show takes the cake. My dad brother and I drove 3 and a half hours from Brattleboro VT (usually a 2 hour drive) in sleet and freezing rain on an icy road and when we finally made it there the opener had just ended. We got to our seats (Row D on the right side) I took out my mic and recorder and we sat back and witnessed one of the most non-stop intense shows any of us had ever seen. Derek's solos were exceptional, giving off a feeling and energy that I haven't seen from him any of the five times I've seen him (with Clapton at the Garden, 5/17/07, w/Santana at Mohegan Sun, 4/3/09, and Albany). The band clearly didn't want to ever have to stop playing, but as we all know, all things must pass, and they did with grace and a MONSTER Anyday encore.
A brilliant gig and a rare chance to see Derek and the band in the UK. Was lucky enough to have a pass for the photographers pit (thanks Blake!) so I couldnt be any nearer the stage....awesome!

The Sunday night before Mardi Gras show in New Orleans was off the hook. The energy in the room was palpable and the band fed off it and achieved total lift off. It just got better and better all night long. Easily the best show I've seen the band do.
are really cool if they don't hit you!
Randy, it sounds like it was a wondrous evening at The EGG ! So cool that you took your son! to some shows. That's why we had a tribal gathering in Durham,... so the kids could hear one of the most talented musicians of their generation. I am already having withdrawal symptoms! Peace, BB

The Egg was my 5th show this year and for all the reasons already stated so well here, unquestionably the best. House of Blues Boston w/Susan early on, back to back nights in Hyannis & Lowell, and with ABB in Mansfield. My 14 year old budding guitarist son witnessed 2 of these with me - and we'll never forget those moments, meeting band members as they gracefully mingled with the crowd in Lowell. Even got DT's slide at the Egg. I don't like having to choose when I absolutly love everything on the menu, but if I'm forced to pick that night at the Egg, it would be Keys to the Highway and Already Free, with due respect to remaining 16 gems on the list. We traveled a long way by car, the anticipation and joy was at peak all day and fulfilled that night. Just when we thought it couldn't be anymore magical, we witnessed wonderous meteor showers all the way home...and we all wished for the next DTB show to be here soon.......But we'll settle for the DVD of this show for now! Hard core - all the way Brother Bill!
Vanessa...for the kind words.
Peace, BB

you certainly do! I'm working on strengthening my "core" muscles, and the soreness tells me I have a "core"...or that I have injuring something near my "core".

I'm not sure I really have a core. Do I?!
How do i become Hard Core on this site!? I regularly post to the ABB site and this site so i assume i'm Hard Core when i post to the ABB site and Soft Core when i post here!? Please somebody explain!!
OK, I hadn't seen Derek play live since before he could shave (1992 or '93?), so I'll just get that out of the way up front. [...oh, and he was impressively brilliant that night, too]. And I only made it to one show this year, but it stood out.
The Fly South Fest show in Macon rocked my world. I loved hearing Keys to the Highway, Sweet Inspiration & Already Free...just soul-shaking jams! But when Susan came out for the encore....aaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I quickly came to respect the contributions of everyone in the band...what an ensemble! Mike's voice is the perfect fit for nearly everything the band does. And the Count spoke to my spirit all night. I could go on & on....
If I weren't raising kids & helping to keep a roof over our heads as the $$ evaporates, I'd see every show I could. But, as it stands, I was able to introduce my 13 yr old son to live performance with dTb that night - a memory we'll both carry forever, I believe.
Great story, btw: when my son Tristan was about 2 or 3, sitting in his carseat behind me, we were cruising somewhere and an ABB tune came over the radio, one with a long intro (One Way Out, live? I think that was it). I lowered it briefly to tell him over my shoulder, "Listen to this, Tristan. This is a classic: one of the great rock'n'roll songs." Beat. "Mo-om," he said, "This isn't rock. This is the BLUES." ..........my all-time-favorite babyhood memory of my boy. yessss.

Thanks for a great album, experience & all that nourishing music, dt & band! Enjoy the rest & the new studio, too - you've earned both, big time. "Hi" to Charlie & your dad, Derek - they were fun to talk with at the concessions. No surprises: your kid has great musical taste, too - he recommended Out of the Madness as his fav. Cool.
Brother Bill - I love your quoted advice & your input. hard core, indeed.
Peace out, y'all,

Try posting this on the Anything goes or Derek forums of the ABB site and you will get the hard cores to reply in detail.

As for best songs during the set; Sweet Inspiration, Preachin Blues and Down in the Flood.
I assume Bobby is asking this on behalf of the band in order to help the DTB choose the best recording for their live CD in 2010 so i was Just wondering if there will be a DVD of the tour available? And if so, will it be made available in Blu-Ray with DT HD sound?
I was only at one gig in Manchester England. It was a great gig and 'My favorite things' was played unbelievably. It seems most pople are choosing the Egg
Higher Ground in Burlington, VT on 4/3/09 was my first show and a great show. On top of an absolutely mind-blowing two sets (I heard Sahib Teri Bandi for the first time ever and have never been more moved by a song), the atmosphere was great - a packed dance floor, people moving, standing, really being part of it - sounds extreme but definitely a life-changing show. Might just be because it was my first live DTB experience but I'm pretty sure it was a really special show. Maybe it's something about the state but I also loved the show in Rutland, VT on 11/6/09. Thanks for handing out set lists, I love the details. I ended up with a piece of Yonrico's drum stick, which of course was a great added bonus. And the Egg show was absolutely wild and emotional. So glad to have been there, so glad to get to hear you all one more time. I'll miss you in 2010 and hope to see you together again sometime soon. You were the highlight of my year!
My wife and I have been going to DTB shows since 2002 and try to see as many as we can, In 2008 we were blessed with our first child and now can only catch the band when they are playing close to home. In August we were fortunate to bring our then sixteen month old to his first show on August 8 at the Lowell Boarding House Park; All three of us had a blast! If I had to choose a song from that night "Soul Serenade" was a stand out. Our family wishes the best for everyone involved with the DTB on their well deserved rest and we hope to see everybody in 2011.
I have not seen many shows but I was at the Egg and it was THE best show I have seen from anybody in a long time. The energy was high octane. Derek had a mastery of his guitar I have not seen before. I was blown away. I was just sitting there with a big grin on my face. I cant believe some people were leaving early to beat the traffic, I could of sat there and listened to them all night.
sounded great to me!!

Well lets see, I caught the band 4 times this year, Early on the "Already Free" tour in "Waterbury, Conn., MT. Jam, Wanee and last night at the "EGG" in Albany, NY. I think the best was at "Wanee" , me and my buddy left ABB early to up front for DTB and when Warren and Susan joined the boys the show went off the hook. Last night's show at the "EGG" was a close 2nd, even though there were no special guests the set-list was killer, my fav was the 1st song on the 2nd set the cover of Taj Mahal's "Leavin' Trunk"!!!!
Holy monster of a show. songs from all of the DTB albums, insane beats from yonrico and todd, along with mind blowing solos and fills by derek, made this the best show of my life. The 2 set's was a huge surprise. Key to the Highway was astounding, heck ALL the songs were astounding. the band was PERFECT last night. nuff said.
Favorite show: The tour closer at The Egg in Albany was the best DTB show I've ever heard, in person or on recording. The tunes were tight, soloing from everyone was great, set list was awesome. The energy level seemed to be off the charts for the entire night. It was a great way to end before a year+ off of the road.
Favorite songs: The return of "Hook & Sling," "Home in Your Heart," and "Kam-Ma-Lay" to set lists this year was great.
